I would assume that is the practice everywhere; I don't believe you get the gaming license 'til you actually have the potential of being hired by a property.And, yes, they are most definitely going to do a credit check on you. I'm not from Nevada (I deal at Caesars in Windsor, Canada) but I can assure you that, as an employee, you will be handling the company's assets ( chips in your case) and they are going to want to be assured that you are in sound enough financial shape that you have no reason to help yourself to any of their assets.Even now, after 16 years in this business, every four years I have to go for an intensive interview before the license governing board where they review the debt load I may carry, whether I hold a mortgage, the balance in my bank account, etc.A caniso is all about money they don't want you illegally taking any of theirs (believe me, it has happened) so a credit check is actually an important part of gaining your license.
